WISH UPON A STAR
History:
For as long as he could remember, Genis was living in the small town of Iselia in Sylvarant. So, for the greater part of his life, Genis went on believing that his hometown was where he was born as well. However, things are not always as they appear.
But, I digress. I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's begin with what our young mage actually remembers. Genis never knew his parents. They had abandoned him and his sister had a young age. With no one else to raise him, his older sister Raine was left with the job. She raised him just as well as any parent. She was strict at times, but despite all though spankings and scoldings, the two grew extremely close. Despite being half-elves, Raine told Genis to never tell anyone of their true race, and the two instead convinced the people of Iselia that they were full-blood elves. After all, half-elves weren't treated kindly anywhere, and Raine wanted to protect Genis from the discrimination that caused their mother to abandon them in the first place.
When he was old enough, Genis started attending classes at the schoolhouse where his sister taught. Growing up with a genius mind such as Raine, Genis learned quickly, and soon was at the top of his class. It was in that class that he met Lloyd Irving, his best-friend. Despite the five year age difference, the two bonded quickly. Genis grew to spend a lot of his free time doing Lloyd's homework and trying to keep him out of trouble. By becoming friends with Lloyd, Genis in turn becomes good friends with Colette Brunel, the Chosen of Sylvarant at the time. The three became an inseparable trio and all was well, until the Tower of Salvation appeared.
Suddenly, the three were thrown into a world of chaos. By being the Chosen of Mana, Colette was forced to go to the Tower of Salvation and meet with the "angel" Remiel, who falsely called himself Colette's true father. From there, Colette was supposed to go on a journey to release the seals of Sylvarant, thus reversing the mana flow and saving their world. However, a group that looked similar to a vicious race of half-elves called Desians attacked the tower in an attempt to kill her. While Genis and Lloyd raced to protect her, in the end it was the mysterious mercenary, Kratos, who saved the chosen. The following day, Colette left on her Journey of Regeneration with Kratos and Raine, leaving the two boys behind. It seemed as though they would have to live their lives normally while they waited for Colette's return.
However, Genis had a secret. Not far from Iselia was a large Desian camp, a place where people where brought in order to use their bodies to create the powerful gems known as Exspheres. Walking home from Lloyd's house one day, Genis had stumbled across the camp. Although he knew none of the villagers were supposed to be around it, the boy was curious, and decided to investigate. It was then that he met an old lady named Marble who was at the camp. The two quickly bonded, and Genis began regularly visiting her and bringing her food to keep her strength up. The day of Colette's leaving, Genis decided to introduce Lloyd to Marble. It was then that things got messy. Lloyd was spotted while the two were trying to save Marble from a vicious lashing, and the Desians saw his Exsphere. Because of Genis's foolishness, Lloyd was now marked as a target for the Desians.
And those Desians wasted no time. Within the day they attacked the village in search of Lloyd, burning Genis's house to the ground. In the madness, Lloyd and Genis ended up killing a monster, which ended up being Marble who had been turned into the monster as a side effect of her Exsphere being attached directly to her skin and not with a Keycrest. Heartbroken, Genis took the Exsphere she left behind, and started using it as his own. As result of being the cause of the catastrophe, Lloyd was banished from Iselia. Feeling as though it all was his fault in the first place, Genis defended Lloyd, and had himself banished as well.
After that, the duo went in search of Colette. After meeting up with her party (and after much protest from Kratos), the two joined them in their Journey of Regeneration. Needless to say, it was tougher than Genis thought it was going to be. However, despite being the youngest of the group, he still managed to prove himself to be of great use to the party. He was able to learn advanced spells that the rest of the party couldn't master, and his quick thinking got the team out of trouble a few times. He also proved to be one of the smartest people there, rivaled only by his sister Raine. However, hanging out with the klutzy Colette and the dim-witted Lloyd all the time gave him a bit of an ego. He often times didn't know when to keep his mouth shut, and said things that got himself in trouble on a daily basis, especially with Raine and Lloyd. He wasn't unbearable, but even he will admit he was a bit of a brat at points (and quite frankly still is).
During the journey, the party met up with an enigmatic assassin named Sheena. Although at first she was trying to kill Colette to stop the regeneration of the world, she eventually warmed up to the group, and helped them on their journey. Genis didn't like her at first, and didn't trust her around Colette. He eventually warmed up to her though, and liked to joke around with her, often at Sheena's own expense.
When the party released the final seal at the Tower of Mana, they went to the Tower of Salvation to meet up with Remiel and have Colette become a true angel. However, things didn't go as planned. It was then what Genis learned what becoming an angel truly meant. Colette would be giving up her very humanity; her heart and her memories. He wasn't just about to sit by and let his friend do that! Along with the rest of the party (Lloyd in particular), they defeated Remiel, and believed they had saved Colette. But, it was just then that Kratos revealed his true identity as an angel of Cruxis. He attacked the already injured party, and allowed Colette to become a lifeless vessel. Next thing Genis remembers is waking up in the Renegade base. They were a resistance group of Cruxis, and had saved Colette and the rest of the party from certain death. However, Genis quickly learned that having a common enemy did not make two groups allies, and they escaped the base on a couple of stolen Reiards, entering the parallel world of Tethe'alla for the first time.
Through their journeys in Tethe'alla while trying to find a cure for Colette, the party gains a few more members. They meet the chosen of Tethe'alla, a rather abrasive, perverted man named Zelos. Genis immediately develops a dislike of him, and the two are often seen abusing each other. They also meet Regal, whom Genis looks up to, despite his past crimes. Finally, they meet Presea, an odd "young" girl who, upon first meeting, is the victim of Exsphere research. Genis falls head over heels for her, and immediately starts trying to charm her, although it usually failed. He got tongue-tied around her, and got jealous whenever she gave her attention to another male of the party. Even to this day he still remains protective of Presea, and still can't talk straight when he's around her. (He has yet to realize Presea's true back story, and that she isn't as young as she appears.)
It was also in Tethe'alla that Genis and Raine's true identities were revealed. Half-elves were extremely prejudiced in Tethe'alla, and upon testing at the Sybak Research Laboratory, they were revealed to be half-elves. Most of the party was unsure how to react at first, but Lloyd treated them no differently than before. He told Genis that he didn't care what he was, he would always be his best friend. However, everyone else was not as accepting. As Genis continued his travels, he was faced with more and more prejudice towards his race. Because of this, he began to despise humans, and started growing a deeply rooted resentment towards them. Lloyd seemed to keep this in check though, and always set Genis back on the right path if he started to stray. He truly was his best friend. However, Genis would meet someone who would test his friendship with Lloyd to near its breaking point. That person was Mithos, and young half-elf whom the party rescued from "an angel attack". The two immediately hit it off, and were friends from the start. Genis was always talking about Mithos, and was always hurrying to go back to see him again. He was his first half-elf friend afterall!
But, Mithos was not whom he pretended to be. In fact, Mithos was actually Yqqdrasil, the leader of Cruxis and mortal enemy of the group. The former hero of the worlds had disguised himself in his child-like form to get close to the group. Genis couldn't believe it at first, in fact he refused too. He was sure him and Mithos were best friends, and that he would never do anything to hurt him. (This is slightly true, has at one point, Yggdrasil does jump in front of Genis to save him from a attack that would have surely caused serious harm to the young mage.) However, despite seeming to share his feelings slightly, Mithos betrays to group, and makes it known that they are indeed enemies. Genis is heart-broken by this. He thought he had found a friend who he could relate with. But, in the end, he was only being used. It was like a complete sucker punch to his gut.
With all the summon spirits collected and their new objective to now regenerate the two worlds and make them one again, the group eventually travels to Heimdall, a hidden village home to the elves. It was then that Genis found out that he wasn't originally from Iselia, or even Sylvarant at all! He born in Heimdall, along with his sister Raine. However, they were chased out because of their half elven blood, and the discrimination that his mother faced in the outside world caused her to abandon her children at the gateway to Sylvarant. Genis didn't believe it at first, as all he could remember was being in Iselia. But, it was true, and he eventually learn to accept that fact that he was originally from Tethe'alla.
As the party was preparing for a final assault against Yggdrasil and Cruxis, one of their own betrayed them once again. Zelos kidnapped Colette, who had since been returned to her normal state of being, and delivered her to Cruxis to be used as Martel's vessel. In a blind attempt to save her, the rest of the party had sacrificed themselves so that Lloyd could continue in his rescue mission. They had all been caught in seemingly inescapable traps. In the end, only Lloyd and Genis were left. It was just as it was at the beginning of their journey. However, while rushing towards the next warp portal, the two were caught in a trap. Four translucent green walls surrounded them, and threatened to crush them as they continued to move inwards. In a vain attempt to escape, Genis and Lloyd unleashed a unison attack at the wall, breaking it for just long enough for Lloyd to get through. However, because Genis couldn't move after using a spell, the hole closed before he could make it through. As Lloyd yelled at him for doing such a foolish thing, Genis just shook his head. "I wanted to be like you." He told Lloyd after admitting that he had always looked up to his friend's valor and drive. But, he also admits that as much as he wanted to be like Lloyd, he just wasn't. "I'm not like you. I'm a coward." He then yells at Lloyd to leave him behind and rescue Colette, leaving him alone as the walls kept closing in.
Suddenly, just as Genis was about to lose all hope, the walls disappeared. From out of nowhere, Zelos appeared, along with the rest of the party whom Genis thought had died before. Turns out, the chosen had just betrayed them to get the item they needed to defeat Yggdrasil, and that he had saved everyone from their traps. (However, that didn't stop Genis from giving in a good Fire Ball to the face!) They reunited with Lloyd to save Colette, and defeated Yggdrasil, or so they thought. After the battle, Genis picked up the Cruxis Crystal that Yggdrasil left behind as a memory to his former friend, Mithos. But, turns out Yggdrasil was still alive in that crystal, and he comes back to life in one last stand to stop the party from reuniting the two worlds and taking his sister away from him. However, in the end he is defeated, and the two worlds become one again. But, to this day, Genis feels that, if he hadn't given up on Mithos and believed in him, he could have changed how things ended.
Two years pass, and new trouble starts. Rumors are going around that Lloyd is up to no good, doing things that Genis knows that the real Lloyd would never do. In his search for answers, he meets up with Emil and Marta who tell him about Ratatosk and the Centurions. Genis is a little skeptical about Emil at first because of Emil's hatred of Lloyd and split personality, but eventually learns to accept him and the two become close friends. Genis, along with the rest of the original party, work alongside Emil and Marta to collect the Centurion cores and find out the truth about Lloyd. Turns out, a trickster named Decus had pretended to be Lloyd and went around soiling his good name, not that Genis was surprised. He knew Lloyd couldn't be doing all those things! In the end, it is revealed that Emil is really Ratatosk, and with his power, he seals the demons away in the Ginnungagap, saving the world from darkness. Genis says he hopes to see Emil again, and he is glad to know he will have a friend that can live as long as he can.
And that's the end of Genis's story; or is it? We'll just have to wait and see what else he can manage to get himself into.

- Raine's cooking
- Embarrassing himself in front of Presea, or anyone for that matter
- Feeling inferior (eg. he has an inferiority complex to Lloyd )
- His cowardice
- Someone talking harshly of his friends
- Yggdrasil and Cruxis
Fears:
- Growing old and losing all the friends he has grown up with ; since Genis is a half-elf, he has a much longer life expectancy than normal humans. Since most of his friends are normal humans, he will be stuck watching them become old and die while he ages slowly and possibly lives to age 1,000.
- One of his close friends betraying his trust ; once was enough. He doesn't know how he will be able to handle it again if it happens.
- Not being strong enough to protect his friend ; he wasn't strong enough to keep believing in Mithos, and look how that ended up. He doesn't want that to happen again.

Sometimes you just get that feeling. Everyone's had it at some time or another; you know, that feeling when you realize that brilliant idea you had just wasn't so brilliant after all? Yeah, Alphie's having that feeling right now.
"This all seemed a lot better in my head." Alphie muttered half-heartedly as he stood at the mouth of the mine, staring blankly into it's bleak depths. Despite being open to the students, this place wasn't exactly inviting. The cave-like mine was dimly lit; a few cheap lamps strung up along the length of the path the students were allowed to explore on. Speaking of the path, it wasn't really the prettiest looking route either. It was poorly kept, and stray rocks and steel clumps littered the ground. Alphie could feel a small bead of sweat run down his forehead. He wasn't exactly the most coordinated kid in the world, so all these randomly placed obstacles didn't look appealing to him at all. This was just a disaster waiting to happen.
"Grag, gee." Alphie looked down. The small, lizard-like Pokemon that had been standing at his feet the entire time was the source of the small call. She was looking up at her trainer, one hand placed on her baggy "pants of skin" in her constant struggle to keep them up and the other hanging limply at her side with her hip popped out just a bit to the side to add to her already very much apparent attitude. Her expression was less than optimistic. It was more of a, "You know you're gonna crash and burn if you do this" kind of expression. Even though they hadn't been together for long yet, Brewster knew this kid well enough to know when he was getting over his head. And, like always, she would probably have to end up saving his butt in the end. However, like always, Alphie ignored her warning, and just gave her a less-than reassuring smirk.
"Don't sweat it, shorty. You can't get rid of me this easily. I'm like a cancer." Brewster simply rolled her eyes at his dark comparison and continued down the path in front of her trainer. Alphie watched as she jumped through the rocky path with ease, despite having the extra difficulty of having to hold her skin up while doing so. This caused Alphie's eyes to widen a bit as he looked warily at the path ahead of him. He could just picture himself falling and breaking his nose, and then he would have to wear one of those embaressing nose braces around for a few weeks. He wasn't really liked to begin with, and that would just cause people to alienate him even more. He could feel the sweat begin to gather on the back of his neck. Maybe he should turn back now.
Suddenly, Alphie felt a sharp pain as a small piece of steel strike him right between the eyes, causing him to reel back from the shock. "For Arceus' sake-!" But he cut himself off as the pain fully set in, and he placed his hand against the place of impact. That had really hurt! He quickly looked at his hand as he pulled it away, relived that it was clean. At least he wasn't bleeding. That meant he could at least keep his lunch down for the trip. As the pain began to subside, Alphie grumbled and looked up towards where the rock was thrown from to see Brewster standing there, glaring at him. "The hell, Brewster?! Was that really necessary?" The Scraggy simply shrugged her small shoulders as if saying, "I don't know, but that's what you get for taking so long." And with that, she turned and began to walk further into the mine, flipping her head around as if whipping her non-existent hair.
Alphie frowned, a small pout on his face as he began to obediently follow after his Pokemon. Man, did she ever have an attitude! They hadn't been together for more than a week or two and she already had him whipped! Well, at least she had got his mind off of hurting himself and got him moving. Alphie wasn't exactly sure what he would find in the mine, but a little exploring didn't hurt anyone. He just hoped, whatever he found, it wouldn't make him wish he had stayed at the dorm.
