History:
The tale of this old warrior soul, named Kratos Aurion, starts way all the way back to some four thousand years ago. The man grew up in a society where all the people who were of different races, countries, and religions strived to gain control over one another, and each wished to rule the over all the lands of the entire world. The never-ending, on-going war at this time, was soon later known as The Kharlan War. During his upbringing, Kratos felt that the way the world seemed to be going, that something must change for good. Feeling almost a complete outsider, while being shunned by his home's inhabitants, he survived by earning gald doing odd jobs, killing any monsters he encountered, and fighting anyone who crossed either him or his home. He felt lost and with out purpose or goal, with no compass to point him in any particular direction.
Until, that is, an incident occurred which changed his destiny forever, becoming etched permanently in history. It all began with Kratos happening upon three half-elves, all of whom were self-described 'outsiders' like himself. Their names were Yuan, Martel, and Mithos. Personality-wise, it seemed that Kratos and Yuan were both very strong-willed and hence butted heads from time to time, but his relationships with Martel and Mithos were considerably more congenial. The three of them decided they would all survive better by sharing their fighting knowledge with one another, so they began to cross-train. To an extent for Kratos, teaching Mithos the ways of a fighter was a joy, and in the process of doing so, 'something else,' quite unexpected came into his awareness. It was a bit of a surprise for Kratos to find out just how much of a true idealist Mithos really was. This was both a good trait and a bad trait, for it caused Mithos to strive for excellence in all he did; but it was a problem as well, in that at times, Mithos simply expected too much. During their time of training together, the four of them came together in a strong bond of trust and mutual respect. They together came to the conclusion that they should bring an end to The Kharlan War once and for all, in order to bring peace back to all races and individuals everywhere. But even in the midst of forging this great bond, Kratos found himself cast out by his human peers, who, through their discrimination toward the races like Half-Elves, could not reconcile themselves with the fact that Kratos had entered into such a dangerous pact with creatures that they deemed as untrustworthy as Half-Elves.
The journey that they would have to undertake in order to accomplish the 'first' World Regeneration would prove to be a long and treacherous path, forcing them to fight countless foes, forging pacts with Summon Spirits, and along the way, gaining allies to help in their cause. During the time of their journey, they met a certain Summon Spirit named Origin, who by his powers granted Mithos the Eternal Sword, a unique weapon only to be used by one who had elven blood in their veins. This weapon was very important, as it would provide the decisive 'key' to end the war, and to separate the world into two, in which the opposing sides in the Kharlan War would finally have their continents split apart from one another, and would keep the world from being destroyed, as The Great Kharlan Tree was dying at a rapid pace; The Great Kharlan Tree, was a tree that was the source of life for the planet. To keep anyone else from using Origin's power to oppose the people with the sinful touch or anyone else, that power would have to be sealed within a host's body. Kratos volunteered for this duty, and with it, the deed was done.
On the day when the sword was to be used. . .the two sides agreed to a truce between the warring nations. Neither side knew however if the truce would really hold and there were certain facts hidden from the leaders of both sides which made the situation all the more unpredictable and dangerous. Their goal at this point, however, was to finally achieve peace, and both sides had resolved to attempt to make it work so that their respective people could live in relative peace once the world was split. . . . making 'them' into the 'worlds' of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla.
But before their peace pact could be confirmed, a terrible tragedy occurred... one of their human companions on their journey murdered Martel, with the goal of taking control of the overflowing Mana she possessed. Mithos, and the rest of the group, listened closely as Martel spoke her final words. Though, their grief was heavy, especially for Mithos, they all had difficulty letting her go. Not seconds after her final breath, Mithos himself was already hatching a plan to try to revive Martel. Yuan and Kratos, wanted her back as well, but. . .they both thought that maybe, just maybe it would be a mistake to Mithos have his way in this matter of destiny.
The three of them then managed to learn how to translate themselves into the Ex-sphere, through the research they did. It carried their powers to new heights, even granting them the ability to 'live' forever, transforming them into 'Angels'. Both Mithos and Yuan had no problem using their new powers, due to their having the Elven blood, but Kratos, being human, had to use the Aionis stone so that he would be granted the use of magic and the awesome power of the stone to accomplish the goals that Mithos had in store.
The three then made their way back into Derreis-Kharlan in order to carry out their goal, but to do so, they would have to create the 'religion of Martel,' and their own knightly warrior Order, which bore the same name as their magic stone, Cruxis. They also created a highly lethal warrior group called the Desians, which would carry on the conflict under the leadership of Mithos. The Order of Cruxis, meanwhile, would be the 'face' that the people would look up to, along with the religion of the 'goddess' Martel. To Kratos this all seemed to be a well thought-out idea at first. . .but, as time passed on Kratos felt, doubt, and guilt building up over their decision to carry on this 'self-made' war in this manner.
As time went on, Kratos' suspicions finally bore out... Mithos' plan was to create an Age of Lifeless Beings, in which, rather than people living in their owns ways, all races excluding Half-Elves were cast aside to the dead, while 'they' all become Angels with no emotions, not anything. It seemed his suspicions had been correct all along . In order to investigate the matter further, Kratos ventured to the 'world' of Sylvarant, where he had a lead he wanted to follow up on. It was the Angelus Project which was taking place on one of the human ranches. The purpose of the Angelus Project was to create a fully-functioning Cruxis Crystal within an actual human body, which would be the core catalyst into which Martel's spirit would be transferred, yet have the same increase in power as the Ex-spheres. The process was similar to the creation of Ex-spheres within humans, that they make for mass-production. These projects had long been pursued on these Ranches.
When the Kratos got to the ranch and began his research, he arrived there as a man with good intentions, whose only focus was to understand the plan and the process, and to hopefully make the best of it. While there, he met a prisoner of the human ranch, a woman named Anna. The two struck up as fast friendship, cooperating together on finding out how the lives of people could be improved and even given ageless youth, and in the process, fell madly in love. As a result, Kratos' desire to stop Mithos' evil plan of devaluing the lives of all grew even stronger over time. More and more, as Kratos thought it all over, he increasingly became certain that he MUST reunite the two worlds, and undo the mistakes he and those of the past had made. He felt he must find a way to use the Eternal sword in order to benefit, and not harm, people anymore.
Kratos knew however, that he couldn't keep their love a secret forever, and soon the lovers were pursued by both Cruxis and the Desians, who were suspicious of Kratos' plans. Soon, a child was conceived by the two, and a healthy baby boy named Lloyd was born. They tried to cope as they best they could, doing research and staying off the 'radar' of Cruxis and the Desians, all the while with their little bundle of joy at their side, but. . . .they were soon running out of both energy and time, and they couldn't continue on this way for much longer, they both knew. Along the way of their travels, they also befriended a loyal 'dog' that protected them faithfully, even when situations got thick. They named him Noishe.
One day, a certain leader of the Human Ranches, one of The Desian Grand Cardinals, and also one of the people in charge of the Angelus Project, Kvar, pursued the couple to a forest outside the small village of Iselia. The pursuer managed to catch up with both Kratos' love and his child, while Kratos out of the picture and they were at their most vulnerable.
During the time he had spent with Kratos, Kvar had grown jealous of Kratos and became tired of Kratos' games he had played over the years. He now saw an opportunity to create the perfect opportunity to defeat his old foe by taking advantage of his one true love, Anna. The fiend removed Anna's bare Ex-sphere from its place in her body, and before his very eyes, he watched her transform into a beast of unimaginable horror, with a frightening taste for destruction. As the monster transformed, it became more and more powerful and destructive, and soon its wrath was so great that it turned to even attack the little baby boy. But before it could, thankfully Kratos and Noishe made their return and rescued little Lloyd from her raging grasp. Noishe, the dog, unfortunately had already been injured by the transformed Anna, but during that brutal battle, Anna momentarily snapped back to her true self, regaining her soul and conscience, but only for a moment. She begged Kratos to kill her to prevent her from doing any more harm. Kratos, however, didn't have the heart to his beloved, even in this awful state, and tragically, the human Anna turned back into the soulless monster once again.
Now, the monster turned to attack the baby Lloyd once more, so Kratos jumped in, gathering up all the strength he could muster, and knowing he must protect the innocent child, he attacked her and wounded, but didn't kill her just yet.
It seemed the way was clear now, to press on to their destination. He thought this would give time to grieve. Their relief, however, was cut short, for Kvar and his men were on the attack. In the confusion of fighting off Kvar and his Desian troops, Kratos lost sight of his little family and when he was not looking, Anna, Noishe and Lloyd tumbled down the hillside near where the ground-zero battles were taking place and ended up at the bottom. After a long hard battle, Kratos finally managed to fend off his pursuers. Hoping this was the end of battles for now, Kratos left his men, and, worried for the welfare of his top priority, his family, he went down the hillside, searching after them, but what he found grieved him immensely. To his dismay, there were nothing but ravaged corpses of Desians, and not a single trace of his loved ones. He now did not know if they were alive or dead, perhaps having been kidnapped by some of the remaining Desians. He knew that even if this were the case, his love, the child and dog would probably never be seen by him again. Now his spirit was broken, for Kratos knew that he had lost everything that had been precious to him. In his sorrow, he returned to Cruxis, and joined Mithos' side once again, with one single condition... he wanted Mithos to find a way to return the two worlds back into the way it had been, and to revive Martel once again.

Puzzling to figure out this intruder's identity, he inspected her more and more to try to discern any sort of information he could grasp. Like the tailoring of the clothing, style of hair, color of the eyes. But he was still at a certain loss on who she was. He may have been trying too hard, but this is what he knows what to do... and does one hell of a job of it. He focused on trying not to make any mistakes, errors in judgment or any of the sort. One might say he tries too hard at this or maybe he should lay off a little bit, yet he is not one to leave things undone and/or unfinished.
While in the midst of his search for answers from her, in that moment he began questioning once again whether his trust was justified or would be betrayed. His mind swirled with thoughts within. Just as he was standing there, he suddenly felt someone dragging him off by the arm with the intruder close by, in tow. It was this seemingly innocent green-haired girl! His thoughts were instantly broken and all his attentions were focused on the present. It really was fun in a way, to suddenly be whisked off in this seemingly playful way . . . A rush of his nostalgic memories began to dance, play and flood his mind with scenes from the past that began to meld and mesh with the present moment. Visions danced back and forth in his mind, bordering at times on veritable delusions of grandeur. Oh, how Mugen both enjoyed and dreaded moments such as this for he doubted how long such joy could last.
His mind wandered back to a time around sixteen years prior, to one of the many food markets in the strips of the beat down streets of Midgar. A very vivid memory came into Mugen's mind of he and his sister Layla dragging along the street, and in front of them were Shimo and Audrey waiting. As the dialogue began to play in his mind, it shifted, and collided, with his own present reality, making it almost impossible to perceive the difference between the two. At the same time as all of this was occurring, he suddenly heard mixed in with everything else, Rydia's voice, making things even more complicated. The mixture of words began as Rydia said, "This way-" From there his vision shifted back into the past once again, as his little sister Lalya said as if completing her phrase, "-brother!" It truly was a sad memory, in light of this odd event; Mugen, began to mull over this experience in his own mind, saying,
"It's funny, really . . . I keep dreaming in the present that events bound to my past are somehow connected to my present and I see them replaying and intertwining in my mind over and over . . . I never do have any dreams of the future, since they keep coming up and intertwining with my present experiences. Are they real in some sense or not?. . .I just keep losing track of the meaning of it all. I just wish something or someone would come along and bring me some dreams of the future. . . dreams without regret," he said, his voice trailing off.
Exiting from his room, he finally regained his senses and his awareness . . . for now. He seemed to somehow keep losing track of what was happening somehow and who he was really trying to talk to. He stood flustered for a few moments as he saw a familiar face at the door. His thought process could only express this, "It's that kid. . ." Yes, the same kid from the entrance hall who had made remarks to Mugen that he thought might gain him some social status or with him or with those Mugen had become acquainted with. From Rydia's expression of calm, it was apparent that this could be the easiest, yet possibly the most odd mission he might ever go on; It could even be that this might not just be a one-time mission, but maybe something much, much bigger. . . .with the luck he's been having with this world.
