“Pyre seal!”
In a flurry of cards a bedraggled monster was thrown back through the air, landing with a loud yelp a few feet away. As it struggled to stand, the creatures companion's raced after it's attacker, snarling as they skittered nimbly through the sand. The monster's attacker, while just as quick on her feet as her pursuers, was not as accustomed to running across large hills of sand. She had to push herself harder just to keep a reasonable distance between them or else face a nasty death by the fangs of some starving canine-like beasts. Yeah, that didn't sound very appealing. But she didn't have an infinite supply of stamina to work off of, and with the sand and heat working against her she was tiring out far too quickly.
Some luck she had. From the freezing cold to the blazing heat, Sheena's journey had led her from one end of the world to the other. Or, at least, that's what it felt like. She was still trying to make heads or tails of her presence here, what with waking up suddenly half-frozen in the snow when she should have been back in her own bed. But no, something, or someone, decided they would just throw her into this world without any rhyme or reason and let her loose. Or... whatever. All she knew was that this wasn't her home, her world, and she wasn't going to get any answers by doing nothing.
The memory of her arrival to the desert was somewhat blurry, but after parting ways with the odd young woman named Ayane, Sheena journeyed (see: stowed away) on a ship to get away from the frozen hell hole and ended up here. Turns out just winging things in an unfamiliar place wasn't a very bright plan of action. Some future leader she was turning out to be. She supposed after traveling with tactical genius's like Raine and Zelos had left her expertise in planning pretty weak, and was yet another thing she was just going to have to work on. Now wasn't the time to be thinking about that though.
A sharp bark made Sheena turn her attention to her right. One of the monster's was closing in on her heels, having broke away from the rest of the pack to try and take her down. Gritting her teeth, the female flicked her wrist, a seal producing in her hand as she did so. With a quick snap of her arm she lashed out at the creature, pushing the seal out of her grasp with the palm of her hand as the piece of parchment exploded into dozen's of others. The small explosion sent the monster tumbling across the sand much like his partner from before, but the attack had slowed Sheena down by a few seconds. Seconds which she very much needed right now.
“Ugh...” She groaned, feeling even weaker now that she'd used up more of her mana. She had found using any move that needed mana was much more draining to her here, and sometimes it was a struggle just to use the simplest of her skills. If she wanted to get out of this alive, she was going to have to carefully consider how she'd have to deal with these monsters – which, from the looks of it, were not going to leave her alone without a good fight. This was going to be a big pain but she didn't have much of a choice in the matter.
Sucking in a breath, Sheena readied another seal, focusing on the center of the monster's formation behind her. Hopefully, at best, this attack would distract them long enough for her to try something that might be more effective. If it didn't work... well, she'd deal with it and keep trying. She wasn't just going to lay over and die here after all. It took her a little longer to ready her attack, what with running and all, but when she felt the seal in her hand curl inwards ever so slightly, she threw the paper onto the ground, making sure not to step on the sand where it had landed. “Cyclone seal!” As Sheena called out her attack, a sudden whoosh! of air sent several of the monsters behind her sprawling as sand exploded in their faces. Looking over her shoulder, the ninja gave a grim smile at her small victory, only to frown when a few monsters came charging out of the sand cloud, having missed the explosion that the rest of their fellow's had been downed by. For the love of Martel!
Today was just not her day.

(OOC: No worries, I wasn't trying to rush you or anything...also if you want to contact me, could you do it through PM since I can't really 'see' the Cbox)
"Ugh! This friggin' heat!" The Seishin said aloud after wiping his brow of sweat. He hated deserts... well hot places in general; but deserts in particular. It was on the desert continent of Calvalalese where he'd first encountered a Demon AND his Undead Minions. Not to mention, a genius SOB who forcibly awoke his power... The same power that let him come to fascinating places like this... And leave it if he wanted to.
Regardless of his hatred, his drifting brought him to this sandy wasteland, so he'll make the best of it... "Well at least until I get my hands on SOME kind of explosive." He said with a smirk, whenever the chance for mischief arises, he MUST take it! That's...just the kind of person he was. As he advanced across the dunes, he caught the sound of...barking. "Heh! Scavengers.." Despite the smirk he was still wearing, his 'Street Senses' were on full alert. Beasts may be weaker than human enemies, but in packs and in their own terrain they can STILL be dangerous.
It was too bright out to get a clear view, so the Seishin reached into one of his camo pants' many pockets. He pulled out a pair of stylish red shades. "Let's have us a look-see..." He said while leaning forward to get a slightly better view.... "Whoo, there's a bunch of 'em! ...And what's this?" There appeared to be someone else there; he couldn't make them out due to the distance and movement going on.
"Heh-heh-heh-heh... Looks like they already got 'emselves a Chew Toy." As he moved closer... "Since I'll have to put 'em down anyway, I guess I'll join in." He was now a few meters away. Wind Chi already gathered in-hand. "SOUHAJIN!" He fired off the small, green wind-blade towards the pack; despite the speed, it was still too far away to be a kill shot. This was more to make them scatter. "Just don't..." As he charged after the projectile. "be stupid, AND GET IN MY D*MN SHOT'S WAY!" Gritting his teeth. "If I give the dogs a bone, they'll just want more..."

Sheena grit her teeth as the first of the three monster's made it's move. Crap, this was not supposed to happen. She had wanted at the very least to stun the entire group, if not possibly take them all down for good. But no, she was never that lucky, was she? Well, it was do or die now, and she certainly wasn't going to be the one die – not without giving this lot a good run for their nonresistant money anyway. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to dispose of them, and she wasn't that worried about getting a little beat up, but it was the idea of dealing with wounds in this environment and with no idea as to how far away the next town was was something she'd prefer to avoid. Plus, y'know, it'd hurt like hell.
Dropping to a crouch, the ninja swung out her foot to collide with the side of the oncoming monster's face. With a satisfying crack she sent it falling off to the side. It wasn't down and out of the count yet, but it certainly wasn't going to be moving any where fast. Plus she had other things to focus on right now. Quickly shifting her weight to balance on the foot she'd just struck out with, Sheena lashed out with the other foot to kick the next monster. The hit landed, but it was prepared to deal with such an attack after seeing it's companion fall for it. It moved at the last second, resulting in it tumbling roughly into the sand instead of taking the full brunt of the blow. Giving a frustrated grunt she scrambled to right herself, hands curling to ready a seal for the last of the creatures.
It turns out she didn't have to worry about that though, as within a split second the monster went tumbling from a strong rush of air. Raising her arms up to shield her eyes from the whirling sand, the ninja peaked through the slim gaps between her appendages to see what the cause behind the sudden gale of wind was. She didn't have to get a good look to know what was going on, but it didn't mean she really understood this odd change of events. There was some kid rushing into the fray, yelling something about not getting in the way and dog's with a bone...? Er, whatever that meant. She must have been too focused on everything to catch his full comment, but she certainly heard his voice over the monster's excitement. Leaping back as he neared, she let her gaze rest on him momentarily, trying to judge if he was a friend or a foe. He didn't seem to be aiming for her, so all she could do now was hope he wasn't another enemy she was going to have to deal with.
She couldn't help but feel a small part of her pride cringe at the young man's sudden appearance, despite how relieved another part of her felt that she wasn't the only human out here. She had been doing pretty alright on her own. Sure, it wasn't going as smoothly as she planned hoped, but that didn't mean she couldn't take care of this by herself. Seal in hand, Sheena whipped the mana enhanced piece of parchment out at the monster that had attacked her first. The creature let out a final yelp! as the ofuda collided harshly with it's skull. As the scraggly beast fell limply to the ground Sheena turned to look at the other two, who were now watching the newcomer with keen interest. “Hey, don't rushing into things!” She called to the strange man, grunting as she threw another seal at the monsters. It missed, but at least it made them back up a little.
Glaring at the two beasts, Sheena weighed her options. If she could get this guy to preoccupy the two critters while she worked on another attack then she might have this fight in the bag. “Distract these guys for a minute, will you?” She called out to him as she produced another seal. Clasping her hands together the ninja started focusing mana into the card, trying to focus on making this blow be the last. She could have dealt with these guys alone, but it certainly helped if the monsters had something else to focus on chewing than herself. Not that that helped this guy at all, but if she could land this... Well, they wouldn't have to worry about dealing with these little munchkins for much longer.

(OOC: No computer problem, it shows up fine, it's just my low vision.)
As he neared them, the Seishin leapt forward, landing with a stomp a few meters from the other person. Turning his head slightly; since the shades didn't really allow him to look 'around' while facing forward. He noticed it was a woman, and not a bad looker either... especially in the chest area. (Hmm, may have to rethink that whole bone thing...) Even if his mind was in the gutter, his eyes were still on the pair... of dogs ahead. "...Still ain't gettin' a d*mn thing from me but put down..." The last bit was in a low almost growl tone.
Behind him, Ryuusei heard the woman speak. 'Distract them' huh? Hell it was easy enough to 'waste 'em', but a distraction was all she asked for. "Gotta give the people what they want, for free..." As he adjusted the shades, thanks to these babies he had the perfect means to push these mutt's senses into a frenzy. He glanced over his shoulder at her, "You better cover your eyes!" Not waiting for a reply he turned back to the mutts; like before, he gathered Wind Chi into his hand. Except this it was greatly condensed. "This should get ya chasin' your tails... SOUGAJIN!" With his left hand, the Seishin covered his nose and mouth, as he inched forward. Then pounded his right fist into the sand. The ground below EXPLODED, hurling sand everywhere. "eh-.eh-.eh-.eh..." Through his covered mouth and nose.

Sheena's eyes briefly snapped towards the other person when he landed near by. He had some weird sort of eye wear on... They didn't appear to be helpful for anything, but what did she know? If she was curious enough later she'd ask what exactly they were for, but she wasn't really interested to know the reasons now. Frowning, she let her eyes dart back towards the circling monsters. Each of their gazes kept switching between the two humans, as if unsure which one to go after first. Their indecisiveness would only bring her more time.
Smirking lightly, the summoner lowered her head and went back to focusing mana into her seal, murmuring under her breath as the parchment began to quiver. The spell was usually simple as was a bit of an overkill for this situation, but with her heart racing and pride somewhat bruised, Sheena wanted to make sure these things were dead. With the casting coming close to an end, her concentration on the seal was once more drawn away by the newcomer. Cover her...? Oh, crap- Eyes widening, the summoner automatically threw up her arms to shield her face, only seconds before sand exploded every where. Eventually Sheen cracked open her eyes and slowly lowered her arms, making sure to keep a hand over her mouth and nose.
Blinking rapidly, she squinted through the dust cloud, trying to pick out her original targets. 'Some distraction', she thought dryly. Well, at least it had worked. It wasn't much, but with this amount of cover she could easily take those beasts down once and for all. She just had to make sure not to suffocate on sand first. Taking in one last breath under the cover of her hand, Sheena reequipped a seal and scanned her clouded surroundings quickly.
There! Two distinct fuzzy shapes about a couple of feet off to her right were struggling to their feet. Closing her eyes, Sheena muttered a last few words under her breath (including some rather... unpleasant ones) before finally throwing the ofuda in the monster's direction. Hands rapidly moving in a succession of signals the seal multiplied into a couple dozen replicas, floating inches above the two monsters. “Watch yourself!” She called out to her new companion where ever he was in this dust cloud. Much like the young man's distraction tactic, the newly multiplied seals exploded. It wasn't as large as the previous one had been, but it threw up another small cloud of sand.
Waving her hand in front of her face, Sheena strained to see through the sand, trying to make sure if her move had been effective. She was rewarded with the sight of two rather charred looking canine bodies. Not exactly a pleasant sight to behold, but it was enough to confirm she was, quite finally, finished with those troublesome beasts. The question now though, was her new companion really a friend or was he yet another potential foe?
When the sand finally cleared Sheena turned her head to look at the young man, now able to fully examine the person she had to grudgingly thank. He was dressed rather... peculiarly, and it looked as if he needed a good haircut, but otherwise he wasn't too bad looking. He didn't appear very threatening to her, at the very least. Still, it was never wise to judge a book by it's cover, so Sheena kept her distance. “Some distraction,” She commented a bit teasingly, echoing her earlier thoughts and dusting herself off as emphasis. “Still... ah, thanks for that. They were giving me a bit of trouble.” She would have preferred to have handled the situation by herself, even if it had been going poorly for her, but she wasn't going to be ungrateful for the guy's assistance.

Even after letting lose the Souhajin variant and blowing that dune to Hell, the Seishin kept his guard up. After he was only making a 'distraction', the mutts weren't dead yet. He heard the woman call out to him from somewhere else inside of the sandstorm he'd created. (Guess she's ready to role...) There was a downside to making such a...big explosion, he couldn't see what kind of attack she'd use in case they threw down next. Shaking his head, (D*mn heat must be gettin' to me...) and returned his focus on any movement in case the mutts decided to test their luck and jump blindly through the dust.
Okey, he could make out something, but it was brief as a second smaller explosion came... Luckily the dust this kicked up wasn't as thick as his and like the woman he was rewarded with their enemies' charred remains. When the dust settled he heard her comment on his 'distraction'. And just as 'teasingly' replied... "Oh that, it's got a million-and-one uses! I can dig, blast off or even make a shield! And of course, blow sand up a b*tch's bunghole!" Saying the last part with a grin, and balled up fist.
After giving his 'Sougajin Sales Slogan', Ryuusei walked over to her, responding to her thanks with, "Yeah, I could see that." as he moved. He stopped a couple of meters in front of her. After giving her another glance he continued. "don't get me wrong, you wasted em! But they could've just been scout, and if THEY ruffed you up; think of how nasty the big dogs can be..."
(OOC: That'll be much appreciated! ...May have to change one line, not sure 'how' far I can go with the vulgarity.)

Sheena quirked a brow at the young man's use of language, frowning at the last bit as if her expression was meant mirror the opposite of his. He didn't seem to be an enemy, but he was certainly tempting her enough to smack him up side the head. “Uh-huh,” She replied doubtfully, letting out a slow breath. Just count to ten slowly, Orochi's voice reminded her gently. She had always been struggled with a short temper, but when she gained the responsibility of becoming the next leader of Mizuho, she'd asked her good friend how she could potentially keep her calm in anger inducing situations. Looking back on it, Sheena supposed this was how Orochi was able to normally keep his cool with his younger brother's moments of impatience. Not that those had been often, but he'd always been the more passive of the two brothers.
The summoner let her gaze flick briefly off to the side, forcing herself not to think of Kuchinawa at this point in time. She was going to get back home. She would. Eventually. Somehow. Shrugging her shoulders, the young woman blinked when the stranger came to stand in front of her. Within seconds her cheeks turned beet red, having caught where his glance had gone before speaking once more. Whether it was more out of anger or embarrassment however, it was unclear. Backing up a step or two, she sent him a warning glare, letting out a warning “Hey!” as she did so. Crossing her arms over her chest, she practically glowered at her new 'companion' of sorts, diffusing only the slightest when he reminded her they still could be in danger.
“I guess.” She muttered, her pride still a little bruised from his initial intrusion. Sighing shortly through her nose, she sent a glare towards the dunes in the distance, trying to find any type of landmark they could use to navigate with. There was... something out in the distance. A rock perhaps? She couldn't really tell from here, but there was an object peaking out over the dune up ahead. It probably wasn't much, but it was something to work off of. Maybe this guy could figure out a way to town or something from there. “Do you have any idea where the next town is, then? Right now we're more likely to die from the heat then bigger monsters... But I have the feeling these weren't the last of them that could be lurking around here.”

"Get any redder and I'll think it'ssunstroke." As he watched her face redden before covering up the goods. (D*mn she noticed! Gotta work on your technique Ryuusei, or you'll NEVER swipe some sorry sonuva...) His train of thought was derailed by her 'warning'.
Now she was looking off into the distance, this place was pretty baron, so she must be trying to find a landmark. Before looking himself, the Seishin removed the sunglasses and dusted them, wouldn't want to mistake a smudge for something useful. He put them back on and followed her gaze to something in the distance. "Well...it's somethin', better than the whole mess of nothin' I've come across." Which sort of answered her question about knowing where town was. "...If I had my binoculars I could tell you EXACTLY what it is out there."
He started in that direction, once a few meters away; the Seishin stopped and turned to her. "Anyways, it never hurts to get a look-see. There might be a sign or somethin'...or a glimpse into (y)our immediate future if we stay out in this hot, dusty Hellhole for too much longer." Though he preferred to travel alone nor did he want a follower like a pair of losers back in Darilshade. Ryuusei wasn't just going to leave her high and dry the middle of the desert. Especially if more of those monsters showed up. She did manage to take care of a few...probably didn't even need his help; but monsters like that hunt in packs and send a few at a time to wear down their prey... He then fired off another Souhajin, like before the green, wind blade was meant to scare away any wildlife that may be waiting for them.

Blinking rapidly, the summoner glared at the young man, her face only seeming to redden even further in anger. What? She wasn't... Oh for the love of- “I have no idea what you're talking about!” She replied a hurriedly through clenched teeth, frustrated with both him and her inability to control her own appearance. Ugh, this was his fault anyway. Her hand was itching far too close to lashing out and giving this guy a good smack, but she resisted the temptation. For now. She wasn't going to ruin the chances of being pointed in the right direction of shade and water over a single glance down at her chest... Not yet, anyway. Sheena could only hold herself back for so long. The grips on her arms tightening and loosening with every inhale and exhale, the woman urged herself to stay calm. She could do this – it didn't matter if she was facing monsters or the average wandering pervert, she was going to get through this.
Chewing the inside of her lip, she gave her odd companion of sorts a sidelong glance, as if contemplating if she really wanted to risk going any further with this guy in the desert. With her lack of knowledge about this world, she would likely die out here without any form of guidance. Sheena's mouth tightened briefly into a sardonic smile, remembering being in all too similar situation back in the frozen landscape she'd escaped from to here. 'Figures,' she thought with no less bitterness, 'Jump from one hell hole to the next.' Staring after the young man's retreating form, she blinked again when he turned to look back at her. Realizing that she had yet to do or say anything, Sheena shook herself mentally and gave a stiff nod and moved to follow a little ways behind the stranger.
She gave a small start when he suddenly held out a hand and started casting a spell of some kind in his palm. She'd never seen any type of move like that before... and, come to think of it, wasn't that what he'd used to distract those monsters from before? Eyebrows pinching in thought, the summoner watched silently as he sent the spell of some kind out into the sand beyond them. Probably to see if there might be anything waiting out there for them... But she almost felt a bit reluctant now to give the guy too much credit. Still, when they reached the small object out in the distance, they were undisturbed by any type of creatures that could be lurking out here, so Sheena figured this guy could be useful for something. She didn't have an infinite supply of seals, and unfortunately used up a pretty good chunk of mana during that previous chase, so the prospect of facing more monsters would not be the ideal right now. Coming to stand near the now easily identified rock, Sheena glared at the hunk of stone, kicking it lightly with her booted foot. “Well that didn't do us any go-...” Her voice trailed off as she turned to face the rest of the desert behind the rock. Giving a quizzical look, she peered between the rock at her side and out into the distance, which revealed to have a few more rocks scattered off in the distance.
These rocks weren't just placed in any old random formation, though. No. They were all eerily in line with one another, and all about the same height, jutting out from the soft earth like branch-less trees into the sky. This had to be something important, right? It wasn't like they had much else to work off of anyway.

(OOC: Don't worry, it was better than my previous post which I edited a bunch of times since I posted it Tuesday night.)
The Seishin had walked some ways then paused after hearing her murmur something. "What I'm ta....? You mean 'binoculars'?" He started to explain. "It's a little gadget you use to see things far away...like a telescope but small and for both eyes." Putting his thumbs and index fingers together like small circles and placed them in front of his eyes for visual aid. "Yup, they'd be REAL handy here...could see all sorts of things big and small."
They finally reached their destination...which she kicked in frustration. (This lady's got one crappy Poker Face...bet I could make a mint in a single Hand.) While thinking about the cards, Ryuusei scanned the surroundings and saw how these rock formations were lined up. "Now what the Hell is this all about?" There were a lot of them, all lined up. Walking around slowly, he looked a few of them over but made sure not to stray too far from his companion. "Well this is new, can't say I've seen anything like this before."
Though still on guard, he was also curious. And decided to push up against one...nothing. "Well that didn't help." Looking back to her. "So what do you wanna do, follow 'em, break 'em...or just hang here and let the sun boil our brraaiins?"

Sheena turned to give the young man a quizzical look, confused about what he was explaining. 'Binoculars'? That was an object that helped you see things from long distances away, right? From how he was explaining the item it sure sounded like what she imagining. She'd never used any herself, but she could recall people back at some of the bazaar's in Sylvarant and Tethe'alla occasionally having such an item at their tables. Giving a nod and a small thoughtful sound, she turned to gaze at the strange rock formation again, chewing her lower lip in thought.
If these rocks were markers to somewhere, could they potentially guide them towards some place useful or end up leading them even farther away from a safe haven? The last thing Sheena wanted to do was head towards a useless destination in this infernal desert, especially after coming all this way and dealing with those stupid monsters. She could already feel herself tiring out from her little tango with the toothy beasts. Wiping away a bead of sweat with the back of her hand, the summoner gave a low exhale through her nose, chewing over their options. It wasn't like they had many to work with, but with such a precious amount of energy to work off of she didn't want to blow their chances and waste all that effort by following a worthless trail. Ugh, she hated making big decisions like this. She always second guessed herself and never knew if she had the courage to go through with it.
The young man's voice drew Sheena out of her contemplating, blinking a few times as she registered his comment. She couldn't help but give a grim sort of smile and nod. At least she wasn't alone in this experience. She'd seen some weird stuff in her days, but this was certainly a new one for her books. But at least it was something. It all depended on whether or not these were here to help or lead them further into the scorching desert. “Yeah, tell me about it.” She muttered in agreement, frowning slightly at the eerily aligned rocks. When the man asked what they should do, Sheena felt herself freeze. Crap. She'd been hoping he'd take the initiative and decide on what to do. Why did things like this already end up falling on her? Rubbing her hands together in a rather self conscious manner, Sheena forced herself to think quickly. What to do, what to do?
“I... I guess we should follow them?” She finally suggested, the tone of her reply a strange contrast to her usual forward self. She was still conflicted as to what to do, but with such an opportunity laid out before them, what other type of answer was she supposed to go with? There was always trying to retrace her steps and go back to where the monster's had chased her from, but that was pretty much heading straight right back into danger. Plus she couldn't even really recall where she'd started running from when the monsters appeared, having been too focused on getting rid of them then figuring out where she was going. No, this seemed like the only good option to go with, even with the all the potentials of it ending poorly for them. She just had to stick with her choice and see it through till the end.
Sheena turned to her odd companion, expression clear but her eyes searching. "Unless you've got any other suggestions, that is." She didn't want anyone else second guessing her choice down the road, so she was going to throw this line out now. If anything, she was almost hoping this guy would have something up his sleeves that could possibly help them. He was certainly peculiar enough to seemingly have the ability to do so.

"Is that your Final Answer?" The Seishin asked after hearing her response to following the rocks. Was she not concerned at all about dying in this wasteland? (At least she'd make a sexy corpse... Ewww...) Shaking his head furiously. (Must be the heat, I'm startin' to think like one of those two little freaks who followed me around back home!)
Ryuusei hopped atop the nearest rock; being up there would give a 'slightly' better vantage point for whenever this trail ends. The Seishin readied himself to jump to the next in line when his companion asked if he had a better suggestion. He turned and looked down at the...r. "You know, you're puttin' an awful lot of faith in some guy you just met." With a grin. "For all you know, I'm some Psycho Killer and would take this chain here," Pointing down ot his belt. "and wrap it around that pretty neck of yours... Well let's go!" He leapt into the air, using h is Setsuna technique he became a green blur and within seconds was on the next rock. Rince and repeat.
